Dr. Gernhardt, a physiologist and astronaut with NASA, arrived at Duke to work on one of his physiology studies today. Mike took time out to tour the Duke University Medical Center Archives where they hold the Lambertsen collection for the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society. The Lambertsen collection was transferred to Duke from U Penn several years ago with processing assistance from Rubicon volunteers.
Mike was interested in finding data that was used for the decompression model developed as part of his doctoral thesis published in 1991. Assisted by Andrew Abercromby of NASA and Gene Hobbs of Rubicon, Mike was able to locate the disks (old 3.5″ floppies) containing this original work.
Update Sept 18: The archives staff have now pulled the data off the old format and Gene shipped it to NASA.
This serves as an excellent example of how these archived and indexed documents can be accessed by researchers.
