How do I use the Rubicon Research Repository?

To use the Rubicon Research Repository, follow the "Research Archive" link from the Rubicon Home page (http://rubicon-foundation.org/). This link is located at the top and bottom of each page of the Rubicon site.

Those that wish to go directly to the Repository without going to the main Rubicon site are welcome to use a direct link (http://archive.rubicon-foundation.org/).

What is the cost to use the Rubicon Research Repository?

Use of the Rubicon Research Repository is free but donations to support this work are appreciated. We have taken the time to request the documents included in the Repository and in many cases scan them for the copyright holder. Is is important to note that the author has granted permission for the thesis to be included in this collection. The author retains all copyright. You must request permission to include these files on your own web site or to post them in a forum.

How do I conduct a Search using the Rubicon Research Repository?

To search for a document, you can use one of many methods. We encourage you to play with the site to find what works best for you.

Searching of the whole collection can be done by using the "Search Rubicon" box on the left column or the "Search" box located below the top welcome section.

Individual collections may be searched by clicking the "Communities & Collections" link in the left hand column. Pick a collection from the list and use the "Search" box located on that page.

I found a reference on a web forum. What does 'RRR ID: ####' mean?

'RRR' refers to 'Rubicon Research Repository' and the number is the internal record tracking number. Simply type or cut/ paste that number (just the number) into the search box and you will find the record you saw referenced.

What is this difference between "Communities & Collections"?

Currently, the Rubicon Research Repository is comprised of a single Community titled "Rubicon Foundation Archive". Each of the sections that make up the collection is a community. This Community also contains two sub-communities titled "Accident and Fatality Analysis" and "Technical Reports". These are just an organizational system inherent in the software.

How do I download files from the Rubicon Research Repository?

Find an article you want to read and locate the grey box at the bottom of the page. Click the link to start the download.

The download does not start or I see an 'hourglass' for a long time, what do I do?

Some of the files can be quite large and the downloads will take a long time. (example: A 60 MB file is reported to be as long as 14 minutes.) Please be patient and allow time for the file to transfer. If you can not see the progress of the download, you may want to try a 'right click' on the view/open button located in the grey box at the bottom of the page and select 'save file as'. This has been noted to work with later versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer. If you would like us to reduce the file size, please send us an email with your request. (note: file sizes are reduced by requiring later versions of Adobe Acrobat to open them)

How do I send a link to a specific article in an email?

Each record has a "URI" at the bottom that can be "cut and pasted" into the email. The link is also located in a grey box at the top of the record page.

How do I register with the Rubicon Research Repository?

Registration is no longer required to utilize this service.

How many documents are in the community?

There are currently over 4100 records in the Rubicon Foundation Archive.

Other notes on the collections:
-The UHMS meeting abstracts contain 1974 and 1996 to 2006 abstracts.
-Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine contains just the documents we scanned through 2001 and documents we recieved from UHMS. We are currently adding articles from 2006. The issues from the previous twelve months are available to UHMS members on the UHMS site (http://www.uhms.org/). We are adding them as we can, so please be patient.

I do not see a document to download, what do I do?

Check to see if the document is an abstract or not. Abstracts do not have a file associated with them normally. There are some case where the poster or slides were available from the author. In those cases, there is a file contained within the record.

My name is listed in several formats, what do I do?

Nothing, we are currently making an attempt to "clean" the database of errors such as these. Please be patient as we are doing out best.

Examples may include: MY Name, M.Y. Name, Name MY, Name M.Y., and First Name1.
